Ever wonder where the name EllyPop came from? 🐘🍒 It's one of the questions we get asked most, so we're finally answering it, straight from co-founders Dr. Amanda Watters and Dr. Jackie Kirihara.
So, What Does EllyPop Actually Mean?
It's simpler than you might think: EllyPop stands for Electrolyte Freezer Pop.
"Elly" comes from Electrolyte, and "Pop" comes from, well, the freezer pop itself. Put them together, and you get a name that does double duty. It's playful and easy for kids to say, but it's also a little wink to exactly what's inside every box: organic fruit juice, herbal tea, and essential electrolytes, all working together to support real hydration.
That's the same intentionality you'll find in everything else about this brand. Dr. Amanda and Dr. Jackie didn't just want a cute name; they wanted one that actually said something true about the product. Simple, functional, and a little bit fun, just like the pops themselves.
Meet Elly
Of course, a name like EllyPop practically begs for a mascot, and that's exactly where Elly the elephant comes in. Elly has become the face of our brand and our community (affectionately known as The Herd), showing up across our packaging, social media, and everywhere else EllyPop shows up. She's a friendly reminder that hydration doesn't have to be complicated, or boring, to be effective.
A Logo Made With Love (and Serious Talent)
The EllyPop name may have come from Dr. Amanda and Dr. Jackie, but the logo that brings it to life came from someone equally close to the brand: Charlie Kirihara, Dr. Jackie's husband. Charlie is the creative talent behind the EllyPop logo, and he's continued to lend his design skills to our branding ever since.
We are so grateful to Charlie for turning "Electrolyte Freezer Pop" into an actual visual identity, and for all the time, care, and talent he's poured into helping EllyPop look and feel like, well, EllyPop. This brand truly has been a family effort from the very beginning.
A Name Built the Same Way as the Brand
If there's a theme running through the EllyPop story, it's this: nothing about this brand happened by accident. From the herbal tea and electrolyte formulation to the flavors we chose to launch with, every decision has been made with intention, by two naturopathic doctors who wanted to build something families could actually trust. The name is no different. It's a small detail, but one that reflects how thoughtfully every part of this brand has come together.

This is a huge milestone for our tiny but mighty business. It's a small but meaningful step in protecting everything we've built, and in continuing to grow with intention. From a name that started as a simple idea (Electrolyte + Pop) to a fully trademarked brand with a mascot, a community, and two doctors behind every formula, this moment feels like a full-circle one.
